Each week, it seems, another new guest star is added to list of people stopping by The Office for its May 19 season finale. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed the latest addition to the A-list roster -- and it's none other than Jim Carrey!
The comedic actor will pop by Dunder Mifflin during the hourlong season closer to interview for the office manager post vacated by Michael Scott, brought to painfully awkward -- yet beloved -- life by Steve Carell for seven seasons.
With Carell leaving The Office for good in a supersized send-off episode airing April 28, Will Ferrell's Deangelo Vickers has already been brought on board to fill Michael's shoes. But despite Ferrell's insinuations that he might stick around The Office full-time, his four-episode arc will end before that May 19 finale.
That leaves the door open for Carrey's character to pursue the gig -- but he'll be just one of many vying for Michael's job. Ricky Gervais, Ray Romano and Catherine Tate will also pop up in the finale to take a stab at the gig, and Will Arnett and James Spader are also on board for the ep -- though they're reportedly playing the Scranton Strangler and his lawyer, respectively.
While it's unlikely that Carrey, a blockbuster film star, would stick around for a full-time TV role, we'd certainly love to see the look on Jim (John Krasinksi) and Pam's (Jenna Fischer) face if Carrey were announced as Dunder Mifflin's next Big Cheese! With his signature knack for bizarre, face-contorting expressions, Carrey would bring a whole new level of fun to those knowing, straight-into-the-camera looks from the characters. There's nothing understated about Carrey, and that rabid energy would definitely unnerve most of the office workers -- except Creed (Creed Bratton), of course.
Clearly, all involved with The Office know how hard it's going to be to move forward without Carell and his small-screen alter-ego Michael Scott. So, even if Carrey is just passing through, his presence will give The Office an added boost just when it needs it most.
