Charlie Sheen's live tour didn't exactly get off to the best start, after he was booed during his first appearance in Detroit. But the actor kept chugging on with his multi-city "Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option" tour and seemed to recover with a well-received show in Chicago. Unfortunately, it seems his winning streak was short-lived.
It seems Sheen's Friday night show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City was just as bad as his Detroit disaster, with the self-described "warlock" at war with his own booing and heckling audience. According to Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly, it took the crowd "less than 20 minutes to turn on him. And once they did, the boos and the catcalls just kept slowly escalating."
But according to TMZ, something rather miraculous occurred at Sheen’s Sunday night show: Sheen, 45, made it through the entire production without once being booed. With surprise cameos by Darryl Strawberry and James Lipton (who asked Sheen what was his favorite curse word, to which Sheen replied, "Either f--- or Denise," a clear reference to Sheen’s ex-wife Denise Richards), Sheen seemed to rebound from the disaster on Friday night and walked offstage to a standing ovation.
The Daily News recaps the Sunday show saying that Sheen told the Radio City crowd, "Friday night got a little hijacked because people got into my magic brain."
"Magic" is one word for it.
Sheen was infamously, fired from the long-running hit sitcom Two and a Half Men for his increasingly erratic behavior and public statements about the show's co-creator Chuck Lorre. Sheen appears to be backpedaling a bit now, saying in his show on Sunday night that Lorre "doesn't completely suck," and that he would like his job back. Sheen even encouraged the people in the audience at Radio City to write to Warner Brothers demanding his return.
